Privacy at Sobat
Sobat exists to make a long journey feel less lonely. That only works if you trust us with a little information — so here is exactly what we hold, who can see it, and how to make it go away.

Who we are
Sobat is run by a small independent team at mysobat.com. You can reach a human at hello@mysobat.com about anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your information.
What we store
- Your account — your email address, your name, and how you signed in (a one-time code, or a password if you set one). We also remember a trusted device for 30 days if you ask us to, so you are not asked for a code every time.
- Your travellers — the people you add under My Family: their name, age range, relationship to you, languages, and any travel notes you choose to add.
- Your trips — the airports, dates, airline, and any optional detail you add, such as where the journey really starts from.
- Your Sobat Safety Card — anything you choose to put on it, including emergency contacts and, if you add them, medical notes such as allergies or medication. This is the most sensitive thing we hold, and it is optional. You never have to fill it in.
- Messages — the hellos you send and the replies in a conversation.
- Basic usage — errors, and counts of things like searches, so we can tell whether the product is working.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information, ever, to anyone.
- We do not run advertising or advertising trackers.
- We do not follow your location. Sobat knows the airports you typed in — nothing more.
Who can see what
- Before you say hello, another traveller on your route sees only a general description — for example "Adult traveller · Female" and the route. No name, no photo, no contact details.
- After you both say yes, you see each other's first name and can message inside Sobat.
- Your Sobat Safety Card is private to you until it is needed. The QR code on a printed card opens a limited emergency page. Anyone holding that card can open it — that is the point of it — so only put on it what you would want a paramedic or airline staff member to read.
- Your Circle is private. Nobody is told they are in it, and nobody else can see your list.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of service providers to run Sobat: hosting and database, and an email provider to send sign-in codes, trip reminders and notification emails. They process this information on our instructions so that Sobat can work, and for no other purpose.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. Delete a trip, a traveller or a Safety Card and it is removed from your account; write to us to delete the whole account and we will remove your profile, travellers, trips and Safety Cards. Some records may remain briefly in routine backups before they age out.
Your choices
- Turn any notification email off in My Profile → Email settings. Sign-in and security emails always come through — that is how you get back into your account.
- Hide a trip you would rather not see, or block an account entirely. Both are reversible from the same places you set them.
- We only count visits on our public pages if you said yes to the question at the bottom of the screen. Change your mind any time: .
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to hello@mysobat.com.
Children
A Sobat account is for adults. Children travel on Sobat all the time — as travellers added by a parent or guardian, under that adult's account. We do not create accounts for under-18s.
Changes to this notice
If we change something meaningful here, we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects you, tell you by email.
Questions about any of this? Write to us or email hello@mysobat.com — a real person replies.
